Nutrition and Recipes

We are interested in fast, easy and healthy recipes and comments, regarding feeding our children and families.

If anyone has something to share;  recipes, tips or comments, please press “comment” under this post and add something.  Wendy Henderson’s relative just published a wonderful new book called “Real Food for Healthy Kids” by Tracey Seaman, that I would encourage you all to look into. The recipes are as easy as 1,2,3, creative, healthy and sound  delicious!

I am interested in receiving delicious gluten free recipes, vegetarian, casseroles and salads!

Natural Housecleaning

Looking for a cost-effective, safe way to keep your home clean, naturally? Try these four common household items:

  1. Olive oil: Use to lubricate and polish wood furniture (three parts olive oil to one part vinegar; or two parts olive oil to one part lemon juice).
  2. Potatoes: Halved potatoes can remove rust from baking pans or tinware – follow with a salt scrub or dip the potato in salt before scrubbing.
  3. White vinegar: Cleans linoleum floors and glass (from windows to shower doors) when mixed with water and a little liquid soap (Castile or vegetable). It cuts grease and removes stains, and removes soap scum and cleans toilets (add a bit of baking soda if you like). Pour down drains once a week for antibacterial cleaning. Add to water in a spray bottle to kill mold and mildew.
  4. Tea tree oil: Can be added to vinegar/water solutions for its antibacterial properties. Use it to kill mold and mildew, and on kitchen and bathroom surfaces instead of chemical products. Add 50 drops to a bucket of water to clean countertops and tile floors.

Rhonda and Caroline - Our co-chairs 2009!

A group of GOC committee members enjoyed a lovely time at the home of Rhonda and Dave Sherwood in Southampton, NY on January 23-24 2009. Rhonda so warmly welcomed 9 of us to her home, served a fabulous dinner followed by discussion and a presentation by Rhonda on CHEC, toxicity in the linings of canned vegetables and BPA effects.

We are so excited that Caroline Kavetas has wholeheartedly accepted the role of co-chair for the 2009 Greening Our Children benefit in May!

The sleepover was attended by Caroline Kavetas, Lisa Boyle, Toby Cone, Jill Brack, Amy Fraser, Jenny Schwartz, Liz Hartt, Wendy Henderson and of course Rhonda Sherwood.

Be sure to click on the comments below this post. Lisa Boyle posted her great Hummus Recipe!!
